JiuTu bites the dust
April 2019. YouTube owner Google won’t have to tolerate the trademark JiuTu for much longer. On 30 January, the European Union Intellectual Property Office EUIPO concluded that the device mark infringed YouTube’s trademark rights.
EUIPO ruled that the YouTube logo has a worldwide reputation and that the applicant hoping to register JiuTu was taking unfair advantage of this international reputation. Result: JiuTu was refused registration for products and services that are in any way related to YouTube’s activities.
