Guess which branches of the household goods chain Blokker will soon be closing their doors? It’s easy to see: the ones on which the old logo isn’t being replaced. And that’s understandable: why put a new light box on a shop front if it’s going to be removed again in a month’s time?

Oddly enough, there are businesses which are doing perfectly well but aren’t switching over to their new house style, presumably for cost reasons. Department store chain Hema, for instance, still retains its 10-year-old logo on many of its shop fronts.

And after the Dutch postal service TPG changed its red livery to orange in 2006 when it renamed itself TNT – against all brand manual precepts – many letterboxes in the Netherlands stayed red for many years. Err, what’s a letterbox?
