November 2019. Car-maker Opel may have a world-famous logo, but that doesn’t mean it enjoys unlimited protection. The German motor manufacturer recently tripped up spectacularly when it fell foul of a decision by the European Trademark Office EUIPO. Opel had wanted to halt the registration of a logo (also for cars) by Zilt. But it failed for the simple reason that EUIPO didn’t think the two logos were in any way similar. They have a point.
